Wellness & Wisdom Stack

Wellness: the state of feeling at ease.
Wisdom: how to live a good life.
Stack: supporting layers.

We all travel through personal hell, trying to discover ourselves and find the bright side. Wtf does the “bright side” even mean? You need to figure that out yourself. Here’s the good news: we are all human, and humans have been on this journey for thousands of years. It doesn’t matter that it’s 2023. Golden wisdom about human experience has been around for centuries. That’s what’s on offer below. I am no guru – ultimately nobody is. The best anyone can do is lead you to important questions.

No Catch.

This is free and built with several hundred ideas from outside sources – all linked within. If you prefer, here are several other options that have nothing to do with me/this. No matter which resource you choose – the idea is to burn fog and reveal your path.

This can be rapidly skimmed – or read slowly. It relies upon science, philosophy, psychology, medicine, literature, art, curated over several years. No blind faith required… simply ideas from genuine experts you can explore and experiment with on your own.

(Longer Intro)
Death by 1000 Papercuts

As the metaphor goes: Cut once, no problem. Cut 1000 times, even if we heal one wound, the other 999 will take us down.

Wellbeing is similar – our minds, bodies, values, goals, habits, connections with others, and desires, all contribute powerfully to our wellbeing. If we’re myopic about one, the others will silently hinder us. They work together like musicians in a orchestra. If the music doesn’t feel right – assume the view of the conductor – sense across the entire landscape that is your life, and understand where to tune.

What’s Killing You?

HOW do you suffer? Please, become very interested in this question. If your life is a castle of a thousand rooms, how can you explore each one and clear out all the clutter? How can you know what your blind spots are? This resource intends to help you figure that out.

Each Topic

Is introduced in under 2 minutes. The linked content and authors stands on their own merit – as with anything in life, one should explore topics independently and find the path and experts that make the most sense to them. My aim is simply to point the layers and teachers out, and provide jumping-off points to learn.

As this stack is continually updated, each layer will:

  • Introduce a few experts and their resources
  • Link related reddit discussion forums (if applicable)
  • Link advanced ideas and guidance (if applicable)

Questions

  • Should I explore the topics in order?
The stack is ordered in a priority I believe would be helpful, but it is not necessary to explore that way. Proceed in any order you wish.
  • Do I need all topics?
The more you explore, the more it will strengthen the overall effort, but not all topics are necessary to see great benefit in your life. You will notice that as you explore each layer, they all begin to touch each other like dominos.

Need Help?

    • Hi Vanessa, I’m very sorry for the loss of someone you admire so much. This kind of loss can make us suddenly see how fragile and short life is. But it can also help us cherish it more. I am not sure if this will help you, but I believe in your power to be your own mentor. I believe that we all have all the wisdom and intelligence we ever need – deep inside, and if we are careful, we can listen to it and bring it to the surface. I have learned this through my own experience with the help of many great teachers, artists, poets… all of who I share around this site. One of my favorite ways to tap this wisdom over and over again for myself is meditation and reflection (also writing). I would really encourage you to check this out. In addition to meditation/reflection and journaling, there are other things that help burn fog and anxiety away from your mind.

I hope you are able to find a few quiet moments to consider this. Like I said, I really believe in your inner wisdom and this is a great way to find it. Happy to chat about any of this further.

      – Jay
