(11/19/22: Updated Experiment Here)
I believe microdosing is wonderful, as part of an overall strategy to deepen self-understanding in one’s life. I could not be more grateful to have this available to me. If you are totally unfamiliar with psilocybin and microdosing, I highly suggest you explore further.
For those who have started this journey, you may invariably wonder how to maintain access to this resource for many years. Sourcing psilocybin is tricky, and when you finally have access to some, you (like me) may wonder how to make it last.
I will keep this short!
Bottom Line
Because the subjective experience of microdosing can be so variable, I wanted assurance that my psilocybin strength was consistent, especially after weeks or months of storage. I discovered this Miraculix test kit, sold here, and purchased two kits and tested the difference between mushroom capsules that were 3 days old, vs mushroom capsules that were 4 months old.
Based on observation of color, the test suggests there is no obvious loss of potency in after months of storage! Capsules were stored at room temp, in airtight glass jar, with a desiccant packet, in the dark.

Weaknesses and Future Tests
This is obviously not rigorous science – merely an anecdotal report, but I believe it is helpful nevertheless. I will be doing more tests in the future to strengthen this conclusion.
Key Weaknesses:
- I did not test placebo substance to demonstrate no color. In other words if I added non psilocybin mushrooms to this test kit, would it be yellow (weak)?
- Mushrooms came from two different harvests. If my 4 month old harvest happened to be extremely strong, then it might have lost potency after all, I just can’t tell relative to the 3 day old harvest.
Therefore, I am going to continue testing the same harvest every six months, using different storage conditions (frozen and room temp). I will continue this until some discernable potency change is found. I will also confirm that the kit remains yellow when no psilocybin is present, to prove this kit is actually detecting psilocybin.
Practical Takeaway
Bottom line, I have capsules that are 4 months old that are very potent! That’s really all I need to know. That suggests that as long as I have a decent harvest a couple times a year, I will be fine. One harvest may even last years, depending upon how future tests go.
I did not need to go to all this trouble to safely conclude this, since many people report that their mushrooms have lasted for years when properly dried and stored, but it gives me a lot of peace of mind to verify myself. There is a lot of discussion around storing capsules, vs the full mushroom, vs powder, and room temp or freezer. I will get to the bottom of all of this.
In the meantime, I hope you all can simply make some capsules and rest easy 🙂

Hi there Question how many mg are usually in an average sized capsule? How many capsules should I take to trip vs just feeling good daily??
